Each year Alabama 811 hosts meetings across the state targeted for excavators, first responders and public officials to educate
on pipeline safety and damage prevention on behalf of some of our gas and pipeline members. This is known as the APACT
program. The gas and pipeline members who sponsor this program do so as part of their federally mandated educational
 program requirements.
Over the last few years, we have utilized virtual meeting platforms due to limited face-to-face opportunities. Last year
we re-energized the in-person meetings and had good response back on this format. We will continue with this going into 2023 but provide for a virtual option for those who may not be able to attend the scheduled meetings.
These meeting are a great opportunity for local and state government
officials as well as first responders to make direct contact with gas and pipeline operators who have facilities within their jurisdiction. The ability
to make those connections is critical to ensure quality contacts in case of any unexpected product release or other situation where this information needs to be accessible quickly. It is also a great way to develop the community aspect between the local government and the facility owner and get them involved in the local activities.
This edition of the Alabama 811 magazine provides additional facts and educational materials regarding the gas and pipeline industry that can be used to supplement what is provided in the APACT program meetings. You can keep up with information on the APACT program and planned meetings at www.apactpipelineawareness.com.
